Commodore Hotel Review

Review By Ben King

Nothing epitomises Sydney’s attitude to nightlife like sitting in the courtyard of a bar on a Friday afternoon (say around 4) after knocking off work early to get your night started early. And nowhere in North Sydney is there a better place to do this then at the Commodore Hotel. A favourite amongst the businessmen and women of North Sydney, the Commodore Hotel is the destination of choice for people looking to unwind after a long week, or, looking for a big night out.

What sets this venue apart from the typical North Sydney bar is the amazing courtyard and relaxed atmosphere, which, in North Sydney can be a little difficult to find. In terms of food, this place is well equipped. In addition to being a finalist in Bistro of the year, the prices are quite reasonable compared to the venues nearby and the service is extremely quick.

Come 9 o’clock however, this place fills with a younger crowd looking to party the night away. The mix of ages however isn’t for everyone, and throughout the course of the evening I did note the average age of the patrons decreasing slowly.

In regards to your prospects of meeting that special someone, the Commodore Hotel however may not exactly be the place to go. From what I could tell, this place seemed to attract large groups of friends, looking for a casual night out, rather than your typical “singles” crowd. The tables all seemed to seat 8+ groups of people enjoying the extensive range of beers, wines and champagne on offer. Accordingly, if you are on the prowl, I wouldn’t recommend you spend the whole night at the Commodore hotel, however, if you are looking for a place to meet up with a group of friends, or perhaps for after works drinks then look no further.
