What To Expect @ Dance Nightclub

Review By Jason Barbin

When searching for a good night out, it’s pretty hard to go past venturing out to the city or the Ringwood strip to one of the various nightclubs located there. But heading up the Monash towards Fountain Gate is a nightclub that is starting to mark its territory as the number 1 nightclub in the outer suburbs of Melbourne.

That club is called Dance and with a name like that it’s not hard to imagine what people do once they get there. Formerly known as Blitz Nightclub, Dance is located on Clyde Road in Berwick behind Zagames restaurant about 5 minutes from the Monash.

However, be warned. If you plan on heading to Dance Nightclub, you must get there early. Dance is one of the few venues that enforces a 12am lockout and once the clock the strikes out, they do not let people in (as I experienced on my first trip there). Dance is also very strict when it comes to security. A drug sniffer dog patrols the patrons in the queue while a guard stands inside the door waiting to give you the once over with a metal detector wand. It is a minor inconvenience to each patron but it ensures patron safety.

Dance is a medium sized venue with plenty of seating available for those taking a bit of a break from the dance floor. For those who love spending all night getting their groove on, the dance floor covers the majority of the venue and is close to the bar as well. The décor is what you expect from a nightclub, simple in the way that it doesn’t command your attention. The beer garden outside is not huge, but very popular among patrons taking a break from the dance floor.

The atmosphere at Dance is as good as I have seen at any nightclub in Melbourne. The people who to go to Dance week in and week out are simply looking for a good time and Dance always pulls through. Resident DJs drop mainly commercial house and RnB but throw in the odd Melbourne Bounce track just to liven things up a bit. Dance attracts a crown in the 18-23 age bracket but apart from the odd incident that every nightclub suffers from occasionally, the crowd is really well behaved.

Like almost every nightclub in Melbourne when the dance floor is packed to the rafters, it often means the bar is as well. Prices at Dance are a little above what other clubs might offer but they have a wide selection of alcohol on offer. The most popular being pots of draught for $4.50, $11 Jim Beam Stubbies and $12 Smirnoff cans.

All in all, if you live in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and don’t want to make the long trek into the city for a night out, Dance nightclub is a great alternative for the youth of today. Just remember to get there early.
