Cocktails and Dreams Nightclub Review

Review By Megan Dobinson

It could be argued that the Gold Coast is regarded as the Australian equivalent of Las Vegas. Like any city of sin, you need a busy, centralised nightclub to rely upon in case your night on the town turns sour. Cocktails and Dreams Nightclub is your saviour. Whether you’re an Ed Hardy-collared shirt and snake skin shoes type of person looking to impress the ladies, or you’re in need of a night of harmless fun, Cocktails and Dreams nightclub will not disappoint. With two separate clubs on two storeys, there is a diverse crowd of people. Upstairs is my personal preference. Enjoying a dance with the girls, a pool competition between mates, and a house cocktail in-hand, I have no compulsion to party on the lower level. This is known as ‘CD’s’. The locals know it as the ‘Ed Hardy crowd’. No disrespect to party-goers at CD’s, but if you’re looking for a group of superficial teens who will become too ‘legless’ to escort themselves out and who are more concerned about how expensive their clothes are than having a good time, this will be your scene. In its defence, the decor of this nightclub is tasteful and chic, and there are plenty of lounges, couches and booths to relax in.

The best nights to check out the club(s) would be your Fridays and Saturdays (of course), but Thursdays are popular nights for the locals, especially uni students. Every month, a themed VIP party is thrown. Entry to the parties is permitted only if you are a university student. A student card is your golden ticket on the Gold Coast.

Age is important. Most newly-crowned 18 year olds dominate the entire multi-level playground, but ages range from your spring chickens to the clubbers in their mid to late 20s. If there is the odd 40 year old male sitting in the corner, beware.

One final thing; if it is your birthday, or any other major event, call Cocktails and tell them about it. In most cases, they will give you a drink card, or they can give you and all your friends free entry when you arrive together on your special night.

Whether you’re looking for a night of sin or wanting to ‘tear up’ the dance floor, a night at Cocktails and Dreams gives you the real Gold Coast nightclub experience. I rate it highly.

Wednesday through Sunday open 9pm until 5am (get there before 11pm for free student entry)Mondays and Tuesdays Cocktails and Dreams is closed. Open every night before a public holiday.
