What to Expect @ Temple Bar

By Katrina Filewood

Temple bar is the Gold Coast’s most popular Sunday Session bar. When you walk inside the Temple you will feel like you just walked into the palace from the movie Aladdin.

With no cover charge, $5 spirits all afternoon, waterfront views and a DJ streaming live to the Gold Coast’s only dance music station radio Metro (105.7fm), why would you go anywhere else?

Temple bar has a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe and its dress code is quite similar. Most people will just wear casual clothes but as it gets later in afternoon, people come to drink before going out in Surfer’s so the sky high heels and miniskirts come out. The crowd is quite diverse, ranging from 18-year-olds to early thirties, so there is a good mix of people.

I must admit that as the Temple Bar is on the water just out of the main party district in Surfer’s Paradise, you should try to remember the directions on the club’s website as I have lived on the Gold Coast for years and still I was walking in circles.

The view of Chevron Island and the water is breathtaking and the decor is lavish with white leather couches and even bed’s draped in material to really give the impression you just walked into an ancient temple.

The one thing I did notice was that there weren’t many bartenders, but then again it did not get too packed until around 5pm so it was not much of a big deal until then.

As I said earlier, every Sunday means Radio Metro will broadcast live from the Temple so if you get in early (around 3pm) there are giveaways from the station… and who doesn’t like a freebie?

Temple Bar is also home to the Gold Coast’s favourite pizza (and yes, it even tastes amazing when you’re craving kebabs.)

If your on the Gold Coast and rearing for a Sunday afternoon drink (or 5), or if you just want a wine by the water, I highly recommend Temple Bar – you won’t be disappointed.
