What To Expect @ 1 Two 3 Lounge Bar

It is a Sunday evening and I have two of my best friends together for a couple of drinks and a well overdue catch up. The destination is Broadbeach and the venue is 1 Two 3 Lounge Bar, located at the Phoenician Resort on Surf Parade.

When we arrive, the bar is full of customers young and old, ranging from groups of young girls like ourselves to married couples with children. We are seated inside at a table and look around to notice that everyone is eating dinner. Perhaps we should order some food with our drinks?

As we flick through the menu, we set our sights on the tapas plates which make our mouths water. We settle on three small dishes that we can pick at during the night. Now that the food is sorted we move on to the important stuff: drinks! The drinks menu has such a variety of cocktails, wines andspirits that it is almost impossible not to find something you like. In fact, both my friends find it difficult to choose between two tasty options. That might just mean we’ll have to try a few! The drinks range from around $8 for a vodka and coke to $16 for a fruity cocktail. This isn’t the cheapest of options for a group of poor uni students but it is good to spoil yourself every now and then, right?

Waiting for our drinks is a comfortable experience as we relax into the lounge seating and take in the view of Mediterranean blue water and stone white buildings displayed in the large canvas hanging opposite us. The design of the bar is modern and simplistic with small hints of blue in thedecor. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing and the mood is further lightened by cheeky waitstaff who strut the bar singing to themselves. A bartender introduced to us as “Mr Velvet” even attempts to fill the empty seat at our table and join the dinner conversation.

The food comes really quickly but doesn’t last long as we dig into the delicious flavours of goat’s cheese bruschetta, haloumi and walnut salad and Schezwan pepper calamari. Before we know it, the food is finished and my friend is ordering another round of drinks. However at $10-$16 a drink, two rounds is more than enough and we find ourselves asking for the bill after only two hours. As my friend pays the bill, I take a wander to the other side of the bar where the music is pumping and more young people sit eating and drinking. Perhaps we sat in the wrong area? Or perhaps we were here on the wrong night? Even the bartender mentions that Friday was their ‘big night’.

Overall the 1 Two 3 experience was a good one, but perhaps not the best venue for a cheap, rowdy Sunday sesh. I would love to go back there again, maybe on a Friday or Saturday night to experience it in full throttle. The food and drink were delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect for a quiet night out with great friends. The bar definitely made a good night out as easy as one, two, three!
