The Bowery was established in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley in October 2003. Taking its name from a street in New York City infamous for its speakeasies and gin joints during prohibition, we set about to create a cocktail bar reminiscent of this era. Complete with live jazz during the week and some of Brisbane's finest DJs on the weekend, we invite you to come and experience a bar the way it used to be. By using only the finest spirits, freshest ingredients and by pressing daily all our citrus juices, our aim was and is to this day, to meticulously care about the quality of every product going out to our clients.

The Bowery Review

Review By Candice Badinski

If you're looking for an outstanding, unique and elegant cocktail bar with a serious selection of beverages, look no further than the charm of Brisbane's The Bowery. Located on Ann Street in Fortitude Valley, everything about The Bowery oozes understated class, beginning with its modest, somewhat veiled entrance. Once inside, the lure of this delightful cocktail bar seems to ensnare its guests and keep them coming back for more time and time again. The Bowery is not showy but is certainly not lacking in aesthetic appeal with its brick walls and wooden booths and expansive polished wood bar which runs the length of the front room, the wall behind laden with an impressive selection of intriguing looking spirits and liquors.

Showcasing a truly exceptional cocktail list (more like a book actually), each concoction more delicious than the next, The Bowery seems to let its appeal speak for itself. The cocktail menu, divided into four volumes, features a large range of classics as well as some ingenious inventions of their own, and are all served by talented bartenders that truly look the part in their sophisticated white shirts, black pants and bow ties. The Bowery uses only the freshest ingredients and presses all their juice themselves, and it certainly makes a difference to the overall exquisite taste of the drink. Plus the fragrant aroma of fresh fruit and herbs create a wonderful greeting for its guests.

The only hard part is choosing from page after page of tempting cocktails... but you can also take the easy way out and simply tell one of the experienced bartenders what you like and they will whip you up a potion that is sure to delight. And for those who aren't cocktail lovers, The Bowery is also home to an extensive list of fine spirits, including some eighteen year old aged whiskeys. In addition, the service is really very good- the bartenders are speedy yet always ensure that each drink is perfect before serving it up.

The dark, elegant and intimate atmosphere simply adds to the appeal of this marvellous drinking establishment. The vision was to create a 1920's-1930's era New York style cocktail bar, something that they have achieved quite successfully. DJs play on Friday and Saturday nights, drawing out the crowds in droves, but the live jazz music during the week is particularly worth hearing and most certainly adds to the suave atmosphere of this exceptional cocktail bar. Winning and being nominated for a long list of awards since its opening in 2003, The Bowery is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy the finer things in life.
