Barcadia Review

Written by James Breene

Oxford Street’s newest bar, craft beer hotspot Barcadia, across from Memorial Park offers customers a prime perch for a great tasting drink or meal while watching the parade of people and traffic passing by. Since opening two months ago, they have staked their claim in the area’s burgeoning bar scene via craft beer, pinball machines, and tasty menu happenings. Co-owner Ben Pullen says, “Oxford Street was screaming out for place that had good food, but also good drinks.”

Baracdia offers different atmospheres to a range of customers throughout the week who are looking for something more than just beer. Weekdays best suit those looking for a corporate style drinking and dining ambiance. Dining in with a few drinks is how Ben describes the weekly schedule. The park infuses the bar with natural light and sunshine through the day and lifts the spirit on Spring evenings.

Friday nights and weekends welcomes a different crowd looking to unwind from the working week. These nights are standing room only due to the bar’s raging popularity with the younger crowds on Friday and Saturday. Sunday better suits families and those looking for a more relaxing time.

With ten beers on tap, the themes revolve around seasonal brews from the South-East Queensland region. Other beers sourced nationally and internationally include the Rocks from Sydney and Peroni for those still introducing themselves to craft beer. Beers also come from across the border in Byron Bay, but Ben says, “We try to keep it as local as possible”. More than 25 whiskeys, ranging across single malt, Japanese and scotch, offer the perfect tipple for those who don’t love beer or are looking for something different.Accompanying these fine drinks is a menu to make your mouth water. Featuring gourmet ingredients including smoked duck ham, fresh salmon, and a great desert offering called the lollipop platter; it’s impossible to resist. The menu draws inspiration from the surging American style but doesn’t go overboard. Although they still do ribs and wings they are able to remain unique and represent proper dining mixed with a casual atmosphere focused on enjoying yourself.

Whether you’re looking for a corporate hangout, a great beer, or a tantalising menu, Barcadia has you sorted. Located on vibrant Oxford Street, with its expanding retail and dining options and open every day from 11:30am to 12:00am, it’s perfect for a drop-in drink on the way home or out or dinner with the family. The latest edition to the suburb gives punters another choice to dine, drink and enjoy themselves in the Bulimba Hub.
