The Velvet Cigar Review

Review By Cailtyn Davey

Don't ask me why, but I went to the Velvet Cigar on Caxton Street. I was with a group of male friends and somehow my female friend and I got coerced. The Velvet Cigar is a gentlemen's club in Milton. I have been to a couple of clubs of this orientation over the last few years and The Velvet Cigar is everything you would expect.

The club isn't as well spaced as other clubs, and the loft is allocated for private purchases. The theme is that of an old English style gentleman's club: red velvet, with squishy chairs and golden cold is the style.

The Velvet Cigar charged entry fees to the two females in the party on top of the cover charge for the males. This is uncharacteristic for a gentlemen's club in my experience. Other clubs I have been to that are of this nature have never charged females an entry fee. Drinks were not overly expensive; spirits with basic mixers were between $7-10, which softened the blow a little of the entry fee.We proceeded to the main area. Typically it consisted of males (of all ages) transfixed on the dancer working the pole. The music was fun and upbeat with a few grinder songs in between. The staff were all friendly, as were the patrons.

There was no wait for the toilets which is always a plus for females, but to be expected.

The off-putting part of this experience was having tall thin beauties strutting through the club in backless dresses; it ignited a few feelings of inadequacy, with me being only 5'5 and in no way equipped to be wearing a backless dress. I was having fun so I just made sure not to stand next to any of them.

One of the girls came to my table and was chatting to us; she turned out to be a charismatic, intelligent woman with insanely strong and flexible legs. We chatted for nearly an hour until it was her turn to get up. She was really friendly and I enjoyed her company; she made the experience far more enjoyable. She busted moves to Love Shack and Cherry Pie and was talented and entertaining.

This is not as girl-friendly as other clubs of this orientation, but the staff made the experience a pleasant one. The overall atmosphere was what you would expect with a gentleman's club, but I had a good time. The patrons and staff were chatty and easy going and I didn't feel uncomfortable. I enjoyed the old style decor and talking to the staff; however I recommend ladies - ensure you have plenty of self confidence before entering.
